All good things must come to an end, and so it is in the case of ‘JOHN BULL’, as we’ve decided to call it a day after over 40 years of playing for barn dances and ceilidhs up and down the country, but especially in the Wirral, Merseyside and Cheshire areas.

There’s no big bust-up – we remain lifelong friends; there’s no disastrous event; there’s no waning of enjoyment in what we do! It all comes down to diminishing energy levels that are required in getting together from different areas of the country where we individually live, then getting back home again after tiring gigs, sometimes not returning  until the early hours. In Robin’s case, plane journeys to and from the Isle of Man every time we have a gig, no longer hold excitement!

We are proud of our achievements over the years, bringing a fresh, vibrant folk-rock approach to the barn dance scene, initially in our native Merseyside area, then further afield, as band members have moved away, thus extending our ‘local area’.

We are proud that we have provided recorded music and dance instructions to hundreds of schools up and down the country through our ‘Baskets and Bananaskins’ projects, encouraging youngsters to dance to a style of music that would appeal to their generation.

We are proud of our other recording ventures, producing three quality CDs purely for listening, and including the use of our voices on several songs.

We are proud of our experiences in providing integral musical and vocal contributions to various thespian productions by the Riverside Players.

But above all, we are proud of the pleasure and fun we have provided to dancers at all the gigs over all the years!

And so we say goodbye to our friends, followers, supporters and ‘groupies’ who have been so loyal to us over these 40 years, and to everyone who has booked us in that time - and offer particular thanks to our wives/partners/girlfriends who have supported us through thick and thin throughout those years.
